Korean M&A activity more often than not leads to confusion

Things are never as easy as they might seem in Korea – especially when it comes to financial markets. It is one thing to purchase a company but quite another to gain regulatory permission to merge the acquired firm into the operations of the acquiring outfit. Although the market is technically open to mergers, most financial companies in Korea find the process of obtaining official permission to do so a rather time-consuming process, often involving lengthy examinations of both the acquired and the acquirer.
