Strong doubts cast over do-it-yourself investing
The risk/return tradeoff is proverbially the stock in trade of investment, and greater risk in the market naturally turns attention to techniques and solutions focused on this juxtaposition. That risk is overwhelmingly a subjective assessment guarantees an even more intense focus. With levels of risk and volatility in markets running at an all-time high, and demographic trends coupled with concerns over pensions funding concentrating individual and institutional investors’ minds on the time available to them, interest in strategies that purport to address this tradeoff – notably asset allocation strategies – is naturally also strong.
