Karine Hirn, partner and co-founder of East Capital and chair of the firm’s Asia advisory committee, together with Senior Advisors Dmitriy Vlasov and Adrian Pop have recently relocated to Hong Kong to maintain and deepen the company’s coverage of China and other markets in emerging Asia.
East Capital established its presence in Asia when it opened a Hong Kong office in 2006. East Capital Asia Chief Executive Michael Hanson-Lawson said these appointments are an indication of the importance the firm places on the Asian region.
“Asia has long been a key market for East Capital,” said Mr. Hanson-Lawson. “Over the past seven years, we have worked closely with our headquarters in Stockholm to build a solid operation in Asia and have capitalised on the increasing interest from institutional and wholesale investors in the Eastern European growth story.”
Founding partner Ms. Hirn left her role as CEO of East Capital in 2010 to move to Shanghai and spearhead the firm’s investments in Asia for the firm’s expanded equity fund range, which now includes China and Asian markets.
With over ten years of experience in the financial services sector in the US, Russia and China, and six years with East Capital, including the last three in Shanghai, Mr. Vlasov moved to Hong Kong earlier this month and will continue to focus on the firm’s China strategy. Formerly a portfolio manager for East Capital with responsibility for investments in Central and Southeastern Europe, Mr. Pop joined the Hong Kong team earlier this year to oversee the firm’s ASEAN business.
“Establishing an investment hub for the Asia investment team is a very important step for East Capital and we believe that Hong Kong is the right place to do this. We spent three years in Shanghai to gain a solid understanding of the reality of mainland China and will continue to build a strong contact network there as well as in ASEAN markets. We are dedicated to Asia and combining both the client and investment side of our business will contribute to our continued success in the region," said Ms. Hirn.
East Capital’s investment strategy emphasises thorough knowledge of the markets, fundamental analysis and frequent company visits by the investment teams. The Asia team follows the same investment philosophy and strategy.
