Kevin Hardy is to join BlackRock as managing director and head of the Asia-Pacific index equity team, BlackRock announced in a statement today (August 27).

Mr. Hardy joins BlackRock from Northern Trust Hong Kong where he held the role of managing director and head of Northern Trust Global Investments Asia Pacific. He replaces Jane Leung whose appointment as the head of iShares Asia Pacific was announced in May. Mr. Hardy will be responsible for the team’s portfolio management activities and will be based in Hong Kong.

“In a world where investors are increasingly adopting a bar belling investment strategy, BlackRock recognises the importance of providing exceptional indexing capabilities,” said Mark McCombe, BlackRock's chairman for Asia-Pacific.

“Kevin has deep knowledge of the indexing sector. His experience includes creating and executing a strategy to build a global equity index fund management operation. With Kevin’s track record I am confident he will make an outstanding contribution as we continue to grow our business in Asia and further strengthen the investment capabilities our clients need,” he added.

Amy Schioldager, global head of index equity said: "We are pleased to welcome a person of Kevin's expertise and skills to the global management team for equity indexing, a team which oversees US$1.3 trillion in assets under management globally.”
