BlackRock announced on Monday (March 18) the appointment of Patrick O’Donnell as the head of consultant relations for its business in Asia ex-Japan.

In this newly created role, Mr. O’Donnell will be responsible for developing and managing relationships with investment consultants in the Asia ex-Japan region.

Winnie Pun, head of BlackRock’s Asia ex-Japan institutional business, said: “I am delighted to welcome Patrick to BlackRock. Ensuring that we collaborate effectively with consultants throughout the region is an important component of our success. Additionally, a stronger understanding of BlackRock’s local capabilities will mean we are better able to match our products to the needs of our existing and potential clients within and outside of Asia.”

John Gee-Grant, head of global consultant relations, said: “Developing and maintaining relationships with investment consultants around the world is critical for BlackRock to ensure that our capabilities are well articulated and appropriate for our existing and prospective clients. Partnering with consultants in Asia is a priority for us, particularly as we see increased demand for our Asia-based investment capabilities. Patrick’s strong understanding of the institutional investment marketplace in the region and proven relationships with consultants will therefore be key as he represents BlackRock in the region.”

Based in Hong Kong, Mr. O’Donnell joins BlackRock from BNP Paribas Investment Partners (BNPP IP) where he held various roles in Hong Kong and Paris. He was most recently BNPP IP’s head of consultant relations, Asia Pacific, during which time he established a network with key investment consultants in Asia. He was previously chief operating officer for BNPP IP’s global business development function.
