Eastspring Investments Berhad appoints new CIO

Eastspring Investments Berhad has announced that Chen Fan Fai has been appointed chief investment officer, country head, effective immediately. In this new role, Mr. Chen will lead the investment management team at the company and will closely monitor the firm’s stable of investments.
Mr. Chen will report to chief executive officer of Eastspring Investments Berhad, Lynn Cheah Lee Ling. He brings with him 23 years of experience in the investment industry. Mr. Chen began his career as an analyst with UOB Asset Management Limited and held several senior investment positions in local and regional asset management companies before moving on to become chief investment officer for Allianz Life Insurance Malaysia Berhad. Prior to this appointment, he was the director of investments at Kenanga Investors Berhad.
“I am delighted to welcome an investment manager of Mr. Chen’s calibre to our team,” said Ms. Cheah. “Not only does he have extensive industry experience, but he is very familiar with the Malaysian market and is a strong team leader.”
Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Chen said: “I am very pleased to be joining the team at Eastspring Investments Berhad and I look forward to finding new ways to service our clients through maximising investment opportunities that we see in the market.”
Eastspring Investments Berhad offers a comprehensive range of unit trust funds and manages customised portfolio mandates for corporations and institutions, as well as government and pension funds of approximately 21 billion Malaysian ringgit (US$6.77 billion). The company’s team of almost 100 employees is responsible for the management of 25 unit trust funds and four wholesale funds. Apart from Malaysia, Eastspring Investments operates in Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Vietnam and the United States. Eastspring Investments also has joint venture operations in India, China and Hong Kong.
