Standard Chartered makes senior North Asia appointment

Standard Chartered has announced the appointment of Steven Sun as head, North Asia financial institutions (FI) strategic coverage. Based in Hong Kong, he will report jointly to James Pearson, global head of FI strategic coverage and Darcy Lai, head of North Asia origination and client coverage. He joined the bank on October 8.

In this role, Mr. Sun will be responsible for deepening relations with the bank’s strategic FI clients in North Asia. He will also provide investment banking coverage and solutions to the bank’s Asian FI clients.

Mr. Sun brings over 25 years of investment banking experience to Standard Chartered. He had previously held roles at Merrill Lynch and UBS, where he was co-head of the financial institutions group (FIG) in Asia. Most recently, he was with Barclays Capital, where he built the Asia FIG team.

On the appointment, Mr. Pearson said: “We are very excited to have Steven join the team. His wealth of experience in financial institutions coverage and investment banking in Asia will add significant value to the bank’s client focused strategy. The bank is well positioned in North Asia and we look forward to Steven’s contribution as we broaden our range of products and solutions to our clients in this rapidly evolving region.”
