Standard Chartered has appointed Erwin Sanft as its head of Hong Kong/China equity research and Hong Kong/China equity strategist. Erwin is based in Hong Kong and reports to Dave Murray, head of equity research.

In this role, Mr. Sanft will be responsible for maximising the value proposition of Standard Chartered’s Hong Kong/China product offering across sectors as well as supplementing the bank’s regional strategy product with a focused HK/China view. He will work closely with the firm’s macroeconomics and fixed income currencies and commodities (FICC) research analysts to identify HK/China themes that are relevant to its clients and coordinate and align the company’s broader HK/China equity research offering.

Mr. Sanft joins Standard Chartered from BNP Paribas where he has held various positions, most recently as chief strategist for Asia equities. Prior to that, he managed the China research team at CLSA. He has more than 15 years of sell-side experience and brings with him an established client franchise and respected market insights.

Commenting on the appointment, Mr. Murray said: “We are delighted to have a high profile strategist like Erwin joining the team. Erwin’s wealth of experience, especially from a China perspective, will complement Standard Chartered’s highly regarded macroeconomics and FICC research team. He will also add strategic context and support to our extensive HK/China company research coverage. I am excited that his idea leadership in HK/China will deliver an even stronger product and service to our clients.”
