Northern Trust Asset Management (Northern Trust AM) has appointed former UBS Global Asset Management executive Benze Lam as its new head of the Greater China region.

In the newly-created role, Mr. Lam will be responsible for leading a team of relationship and sales experts supporting Northern Trust AM clients across Hong Kong, mainland China, Macau and Taiwan. He will be based in Hong Kong, where he will report to Bo Kratz, head of Asia-Pacific.

Mr. Lam has more than 13 years of experience working with institutional investors across the region. His most recent role was head of sales for China offshore at UBS Global Asset Management, where he focussed on sovereign wealth funds and QDII clients.

He has also in the past held senior roles at FIL Investment Management (Fidelity), State Street and Morgan Stanley.

“As asset owners in the region continue to grow both in size and sophistication, we see increasing appetite from investors for Northern Trust’s range of innovative investment solutions,” said Mr. Kratz. “Benze’s extensive knowledge and experience across the region will support our focus on this important market and underlines our commitment to the region.”

From its hub in Hong Kong, Northern Trust AM provides clients with global equity index portfolio management and global equity dealing, in addition to investment strategy and relationship management. It also has representatives in Tokyo and Singapore, and recently opened an office in Kuala Lumpur.
