Top 20 cash flow funds in Asia drop by 45.6% in October, says Strategic Insight

Volatile global market conditions have triggered an exodus of capital out of the Asian region. This was highlighted by a 45.6% decline month-on-month, or US$5.19 billion, in the top 20 cash flow funds in Asia from September to October this year.

According to the statistics from Strategic Insight, total volume for the top 20 cash flow funds was US$6.17 billion in October, against the amount of US$11.35 billion in September.

Among the top players, DaiwaSB's Global High Grade Preferred Sec (H) portfolio topped its peers with net capital inflows of US$647.21 million in October. It was trailed by Samsung’s US Dynamic Property Distribution H EqMx Cf and Nomura’s Nikkei 225 Exchange Traded Fund, which gathered net new flows of US$525.77 million and US$515.13 million, respectively.

Morgan Stanley Huaxin Fund Management’s Quality Life Equity Fund was the best performing China-focussed fund among the top 20, and was ranked fifth in Asia with net capital inflows of US$449.36 million.

Japanese-related funds benefitted from the positivity generated from Abenomics. The majority of the top 20 best performing funds were Japan-focussed, including the following portfolios: Daiwa SB’s Global High Grade Preferred Sec (H), Nomura’s Nikkei 225 Exchange Traded Fund, Shinko’s US-REIT Open, Daiwa High Grade CAD Bond Open, Nikko’s Nikkei Listed Index Fund 225, Nomura’s Topix Exchange Traded Fund, Mitsubishi UFJ’s J-REIT Open 3M Settlement, the Royal Bank of Scotland’s Arcus Japan Absolute Retail JPY, and JP Morgan’s JPM NIKKO JPM Global S&M Cap EQ Discovery Fund, JPM Japan My Star, and JPM Medium/Small Capital Equity Open.
