UBS AG has appointed Rene Buehlmann as its new head of asset management in Asia-Pacific, following the departure of Kai Sotorp to Manulife Financial Corp, according to Bloomberg.
According to a staff memo seen by the news agency, Mr. Buehlmann, who is currently global head of UBS’s fund distribution business for wealth management, as well as being in charge of investment products and services in Hong Kong, will start his new role on July 1.
He will also join the executive committees for asset management and Asia-Pacific, where he will report to Ulrich Koerner, CEO of UBS Asset Management, and Chi-Won Yoon, CEO of UBS Asia Pacific, respectively.
Mr. Buehlmann has worked at the Zurich-based financial services provider for 24 years, the last nine of which he has spent in Asia-Pacific. He has also held senior roles in Switzerland and New York.
UBS is yet to announce a successor to Mr. Buehlmann as its global head of fund distribution for wealth management.
It was announced late last month that UBS’s previous head of asset management for Asia-Pacific, Mr. Sotorp, was leaving the company to become CEO and president of Canada’s Manulife Asset Management.
