The Singapore Exchange (SGX) denied that it was considering the purchase of the Australian unit of Cboe Global Markets.
The bourse issued the denial after the Australian Financial Review, citing people with knowledge of the plan, reported on December 3 that SGX has held preliminary talks with Cboe Global Markets and its advisers about a potential offer for Cboe Australia.
“The speculation reported in the AFR article and other media articles is inaccurate. SGX is not exploring or considering an acquisition of Cboe Australia,” SGX says in a statement on December 4.
Cboe Global Markets, a provider of market infrastructure and tradable products, had announced plans to sell Cboe Australia and Cboe Canada in October, saying that their equities businesses fall outside its core focus and strategy.
