Singapore’s Lion Group Holding Ltd is investing up to US$12 million for a 10% economic interest in Indonesian stablecoin issuer PT Nusantara Bumi Sangkara.
The investment will involve issuance of ordinary shares in Lion Group or other equity-linked securities, and represents a “key step” in its growth strategy, the Singaporean company says in a statement on June 30.
An economic interest will allow the company to earn returns on its investment without giving it voting rights in Nusantara Bumi Sangkara, which is developing NIDR, a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the Indonesian rupiah.
According to the statement, the Indonesian firm aims to provide low-cost, cross-border fund transfer and value exchange services, while building a broader digital financial infrastructure integrating blockchain, smart contracts, artificial intelligence-driven risk control, and automated decision-making.
“By participating in a compliant, real-world-asset backed stablecoin and digital payments platform, Lion Group further diversifies and strengthens its digital asset treasury,” the company says.
