Value Partners names adviser for business development in Hong Kong, China

Hong Kong asset manager Value Partners Group has appointed George Lam as senior adviser to support its business development efforts in Hong Kong and China.

He will also advise the group and its affiliates on environmental, social and governance initiatives, Value Partners says in a statement on April 4.

Lam has served as chair of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific Sustainable Business Network (ESBN), the ESBN Task Force on Sustainable and Inclusive Finance, and Hong Kong’s technology business park, Cyberport.

“The group will benefit from his direct investment experience and corporate governance background,” Value Partners says. His appointment was effective April 3.

AIA Singapore appoints new heads of distribution and corporate solutions

AIA Singapore has appointed Alvin Fu as chief distribution officer to succeed Chin Chung Wen, who is retiring at the end of April after 30 years with the company.

Fu is currently the chief corporate solutions officer, a role that will be taken over by Kenneth Tan, who now heads business underwriting and operations for corporate solutions.

The appointments are effective May 1. Fu and Tan will both report to AIA Singapore Chief Executive Officer Wong Sze Keed, the company says in a statement on April 6.

Aviva Investors hires Asia Pacific client solutions director

UK asset manager Aviva Investors has hired Shiqi Wang from Algebris Investments as client solutions director for Asia Pacific.

Based in Singapore, she reports to Richard Surrency, head of Asia Pacific, global client solutions, the company says in a statement on April 3.

She will work closely with the local client services team to accelerate Aviva’s business growth in Asia Pacific, expanding its distribution capability as well as playing a key role in leading the firm’s global financial institutional strategy across the region.

Wang, who was director of business development and investor relations for Asia and the Middle East at Algebris, has more than 17 years of asset management and institutional experience, including stints at Mercer, Bank of Singapore and ANZ in Singapore.

CapitaLand Investment hires duo for senior positions in Japan, China

Singapore property investment firm CapitaLand Investment Ltd has hired Hideto Yamada from Japanese pension giant Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF) as managing director for Japan, and Kara Wang from Citibank as chief investment officer for China.

Yamada was head of global real estate and co-head of private investment markets at GPIF and Wang was managing director, Asia co-head of real estate and lodging at Citibank. Their appointments at CapitaLand will take effect on April 17 and May 5, respectively, the company says in a statement on April 4.

Yamada’s principal priorities will be to further develop CapitaLand’s partnership with its onshore capital partners, actively grow funds under management for its private, public and lodging funds, and to identify strategic merger and acquisition opportunities.

Wang, meanwhile, will spearhead direct investments for the company’s onshore and offshore fund products in China.

Mercer Super announces two senior appointments

Australia’s Mercer Super, which recently completed merging with BT Super, has appointed Corrin Collocott as chief investment officer and Andrew Wallace as personal super and member experience leader, according to a report in the Financial Standard.

BT Super was folded into Mercer Super on April 1. Collocott was BT Super’s CIOand Wallace was managing director, personal and corporate superannuation.

Collocott will be responsible for performance of Mercer Super’s investment options and other diversified funds. He will also serve as deputy CIO within the broader Mercer Pacific business. He reports to Mercer Pacific CIO Kylie Willment.

Wallace reports to Mercer Super Chief Executive Tim Barber and oversee the team looking after the fund’s 850,000 members.

“The aim of the merger has always been about bringing the best of our organisations together to deliver better retirement outcomes for our members. Both Andrew and Corrin have a great deal of experience across the industry, and importantly, a shared purpose to make a difference in people’s lives,” Mercer Pacific President David Bryant was quoted as saying in the report on April 6.

Janus Henderson names new director of sales management

UK asset manager Janus Henderson Investors has hired Shanice Loo to the newly created role of director of sales management, according to a report in fundselectorasia.com on April 12.

She will coordinate sales campaigns, oversee distribution team workflow and manage the firm’s master agent relationship in Taiwan.

She reports to Alexander Ng, head of intermediary sales for Asia ex-Japan.

JLL appoints head of capital markets for Japan

Property investment firm JLL has appointed Ryuta Takeuchi as head of capital markets, Japan, according to report in finews.asia on April 4, citing a company statement.

Based in Tokyo, Takeuchi will be responsible for JLL’s capital markets platform in Japan, overseeing inbound investments into the domestic commercial real estate market, and advising domestic capital owners on outbound investment options.

Takeuchi was previously president and chief executive officer of the global real estate investment arm of Mitsubishi Corporation, according to the report.
