American Century Investments makes four appointments to Asia Pacific team
American Century Investments has bolstered its Asia Pacific team with four senior appointments to capitalise on the region’s growth, including hiring Tom Clapham from Aviva Investors as head of Asia Pacific to succeed Tony Archer, who has retired.
Clapham will relocate to Sydney from Singapore to take up his new job, the company says in a statement on September 19.
He has 25 years of experience in the financial services industry spanning Sydney, Singapore, Hong Kong and Beijing, including working with AXA Investment Managers, Macquarie Group and Deutsche Bank. At Aviva Investors, he was head of Asia, client group.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth Trinh, who previously led American Century’s Australian and New Zealand business, has taken on the newly created role of head of Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.
Trinh will be responsible for further expanding the company’s actively managed investment capabilities in Southeast Asian markets. She has been with the company since 2010.
Michelle Kidd, who was vice president of American Century’s institutional advisory group since 2018, now heads the Australian and New Zealand institutional business. Kidd has 15 years of experience in the Australian institutional market.
And Alastair McKibbin will take on the newly created role of head of Australian wholesale business, relocating to Sydney from New York where he was vice president, global strategic relationships for over three years.
HSBC Asset Management names Brenda Wong and Jasmine Hung to new roles
HSBC Asset Management has named Brenda Wong as North Asia institutional head and Jasmine Hung as Hong Kong head of pensions, both newly created roles based in Hong Kong.
The appointments are effective October 1, according to a report in finewsasia.asia on September 23, citing a company statement.
Wong, who has been with the firm since 2018, is currently head of Asia liquidity sales while Hung, who has more than 18 years of experience, joined in 2017 to lead its private bank sales team in Hong Kong.
In their new roles, they will report to Paul Griffiths, the global head of institutional business, and Daisy Ho, the Asia Pacific and Hong Kong chief executive.
UBS rehires Sheryl Fofaria as Southeast Asia head of social impact
Based in Singapore, she reports to Tom Hall, the global head of social impact and philanthropy, and Dino Rinaldi, co-head of Asia Pacific wealth management advisory and sales, and client services.
Her appointment was reported on multiple news sites, including wealthbriefingasia.com, on September 22, citing a company statement.
Fofaria has 18 years of experience in philanthropy and finance, and most recently led JP Morgan Chase’s Philanthropy Centre in Europe, the Middle East & Africa.
According to her LinkedIn profile, she advised institutional asset managers and hedge funds on their cross-asset macro and Asian equity strategies at UBS Investment Bank in London and Hong Kong from 2005 to 2011.
First Sentier Investors hires Miranda Poon for senior North Asia role
First Sentier Investors has hired Miranda Poon as director of institutional business for North Asia.
Based in Hong Kong, she reports to Lauren Prendiville, managing director and head of distribution, Asia, according to a report published in wealthbriefingasia.com on September 23.
Poon has over 20 years of distribution and client management experience in the asset management industry. She was most recently head of Asia institutional business for private investments at AZ Investment Management, according to her LinkedIn profile.
