HSBC Asset Management has appointed Michael Cross as chief investment officer for Asia, on top of his existing role as global fixed income CIO.
Cross, who joined the firm from the UK central bank nine years ago, takes over the Asia CIO role from Cecilia Chan, who retired in November.
He will spearhead the company’s moves in Asia, overseeing more than US$200 billion of assets and supervising a team of over 180 professionals, HSBC Asset Management says in a statement on January 8.
He reports to Daisy Ho, chief executive officer, Asia Pacific and Hong Kong, and Xavier Baraton, the global CIO.
Cross was hired as global head of official sector institutions in 2015 from the Bank of England, where he headed the foreign exchange division and reserves management. He was appointed global fixed income CIO in 2021.
London-based HSBC Asset Management had $3.02 trillion of assets as of September 2023.
