Malaysia’s pilgrimage fund board Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has promoted Mustakim Mohamad to group managing director and chief executive officer to succeed Syed Hamadah Syed Othman.
His appointment is effective May 6, a day after Syed Hamadah’s term ends.
State-owned TH announced Mustakim’s promotion in a statement on April 29. The term of appointment was not disclosed.
Mustakim has worked at TH since 2003 and is currently executive director of finance. He has held other senior roles through his 22-year career at the fund, including executive director of operations, deputy group chief financial officer, and head of fund investment and outsourcing.
According to TH, Mustakim’s appointment was based on his “experience and capability to realise TH’s vision at the next level” and that it was in line with the fund’s “philosophy of driving excellence in all aspects for the benefit of its depositors”.
The government set up TH in 1963 to invest money saved by Muslims for their pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca. TH managed 81 billion ringgit (US$19.24 billion) of assets as of end-2024.
