The Philippines’ Social Security System (SSS) has reappointed labour leader Eva B. Arcos to its governing board, the Social Security Commission.
Arcos, who served on the board in an acting capacity for a year, was reappointed as a full-fledged member and took her oath of office on April 24 before Labour Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, the state-owned pension fund says in a statement on May 13.
Her appointment is for two years, an SSS spokesperson tells Asia Asset Management. She also served one-year terms in 2015 and 2016.
Arcos is a member of the executive and women’s committees of the global and Asia Pacific IndustriALL union.
She “will continue to be critical in shaping the policies that govern the SSS”, Rolando Macasaet, president and chief executive officer of the pension fund, says in the statement.
The SSS, which manages retirement savings of private sector employees, the self-employed and Filipino overseas workers, had 936.3 billion pesos (US$16.2 billion) of total assets as of end-March 2024.
