Thailand’s finance ministry has received applications from seven candidates vying to become the next governor of the central bank, according to the Bangkok Post.
Five men and two women have applied to succeed Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput, the current governor of the Bank of Thailand whose five-year term ends on September 30, Pornchai Thiraveja, a spokesperson for the finance ministry, is quoted as saying in the report published recently.
The list includes Somprawin Manprasert, a board member of the National Economic and Social Development Council, and Kobsak Pootrakool, chair of the Federation of Thai Capital Market Organisations and director and senior executive vice-president of Bangkok Bank.
He says a selection committee will shortlist at least two candidates for Pichai Chunhavajira, the finance minister, to select his choice. The appointment will require Cabinet and royal approval.
