Thailand’s finance ministry has named Vitai Ratanakorn as the next head of the country’s central bank.

He will become governor of the Bank of Thailand on October 1 when current chief Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput retires.
The finance ministry, which had shortlisted Vitai and Roong Mallikamas, deputy governor of the central bank for the position, announced the appointment in a statement on its website on July 22.
Vitai is currently president and chief executive officer of the Government Savings Bank, and was a former secretary-general of the Government Pension fund. He will serve as central bank governor for a five-year term.
