US investment bank and fund manager William Blair & Co has opened an office in Singapore, its second in Asia after Shanghai in China.
According to Stephanie Braming, partner and global head of the company’s asset management arm William Blair Investment Management, the move marks a “pivotal point in our growth”.
“It provides us with a greater level of on-the-ground Asian coverage and insight than ever before,” she says in a statement on September 8.
The company has also hired Clifford Lau as a portfolio manager for its emerging-markets debt team, reflecting “continued commitment to give our clients access to the highest-quality investment professionals”, Ms. Braming says.
Mr. Lau, who is based in Singapore, was previously head of fixed income for Asia Pacific at Columbia Threadneedle Investments, where he worked for seven years.
William Blair Investment Management had US$56.8 billion of assets under management as at June 30, 2020.
