Malaysian pilgrimage fund Lembaga Tabung Haji is likely to name Mohamad Damshal Awang Damit as chief investment officer, according to people familiar with the matter.
Mr. Mohamad Damshal was previously head of equity and fixed income at Malaysia’s social security organisation or Socso.
"His first day working at [Lembaga Tabung Haji] is expected to be on January 21," one of the people familiar with the matter tells Asia Asset Management (AAM).
Spokespersons for the fund did not immediately respond to questions from AAM.
Meor Khairi Meor Mohd Bazid, the pilgrimage fund’s head of domestic equity, is currently the acting CIO.
Mr. Mohamad Damshal was a partner and chief executive officer of investment services provider Azimuth Global Partners before joining Socso in June 2016.
He has also been the head of private equity at government-linked Felda Investment Corp, managing director of Amundi Islamic Malaysia, and chief executive officer of Muamalat Invest.
Lembaga Tabung Haji had 73.4 billion ringgit (US$18.03 billion) of assets as of end-September 2019.
