US electronic fixed income trading service provider MarketAxess Holdings has hired Riad Chowdhury, a former senior executive at Standard Chartered Bank, to be its Asia Pacific head.

Based in Singapore, he will be responsible for all of MarketAxess’s business operations in the region, including expanding relationships with regional and global institutional investors and dealers, the company says in a statement on September 23, when the appointment took effect.

He reports to Christophe Roupie, head of Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific.

Mr. Chowdhury was previously managing director – head of global executive services for Asia, at Standard Chartered Bank.

“Riad brings a wealth of international and Asian investor client and dealer experience to MarketAxess, at an exciting time for us and our clients. Global shifts in market structure and end-client needs are driving adoption of electronic trading across the region,” Mr. Roupie says in the statement.

It’s not clear whether Mr. Chowdhary was hired for a newly created position or to fill a vacancy. Spokespersons for MarketAxess did not immediately respond to questions from Asia Asset Management.

New York-based MarketAxess has a trading network of over 1,700 firms worldwide.
