The Philippines’ Social Security System (SSS) has signed an agreement with the Bureau of Immigration to provide social security coverage to job order and contract workers.
This will benefit at least 800 such workers at the bureau who will be classified as self-employed SSS members, the pension fund says in a statement on March 30.
The bureau will collect and remit their monthly contributions to the SSS through a salary-deduction scheme.
The pension fund has similar partnerships with more than 2,000 local and national government entities and state universities and colleges.
The SSS, which manages the retirement savings of private sector employees and the self-employed, had 710.43 billion pesos (US$13.07 billion) of assets as of end-June 2022.
