The Philippines’ Social Security System (SSS) has appointed senior union official Jesus P. Sale Jr to its governing board, the Social Security Commission.
He succeeds Anita Bumpus-Quitain, who was on the board since October 2016.
SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Rolando Ledesma Macasaet announced the appointment in a statement on April 19. He says Sale was appointed on March 26 and took his oath of office on April 11.
Sale is vice president for internal affairs at the Associated Marine Officers and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines. The statement did not specify the term of his appointment to the Social Security Commission.
The SSS manages the retirement savings of private sector employees, the self-employed and Filipino overseas workers, with 773.39 billion pesos (US$13.94 billion) of assets under management as of end-2023.
