US asset manager J.P. Morgan Asset Management has promoted Kaguya Komatsu from head of funds and institutional business for Japan to chief executive officer of its Japanese unit.

He takes over from Shoichi Ohkoshi, who was named to a newly created role as chairman of JPMAM Japan.

Both of them report to Dan Watkins, Asia Pacific CEO of J.P. Morgan Asset Management.

The company announced the appointments in a statement on February 3, saying that Komatsu will drive strategic direction and growth momentum of the Japanese business, while Ohkoshi will focus on raising the firm’s profile in the industry, driving major client pursuits, and managing relationships with regulators and stakeholders.

New York-based J.P. Morgan Asset Management managed around US$3.6 trillion of assets as of end-2024.
