UK’s Janus Henderson to manage US$45 billion fixed income portfolio for Guardian Life

The partnership will see Guardian Life commit up to $400 million of seed capital to help accelerate Janus Henderson’s fixed income products

UK asset manager Janus Henderson has entered into a strategic partnership with Guardian Life Insurance of America that will see the asset manager managing the insurer’s US$45 billion investment grade public fixed income asset portfolio.

The partnership will see Guardian Life commit up to $400 million of seed capital to help accelerate Janus Henderson’s “continued innovation in securitised credit and high quality active fixed income products”, Janus Henderson says in a statement on July 2.

Both companies will also co-develop proprietary, multi-asset solution model portfolios for Guardian Life’s dually registered broker-dealer and registered investment adviser Park Avenue Securities.

Guardian Life will also receive equity warrants and other economic considerations designed to support a “shared goal of accelerating growth and driving value creation”, Janus Henderson says in a statement.

Andrew McMahon, Guardian Life’s chairman and chief executive officer, says the company is pleased to close the strategic transaction.

“This partnership leverages our complementary strengths, allowing us to accelerate our investment strategy and bolster our wealth management capabilities for the benefit of our customers and policyholders,” he says.

Ali Dibadj, chief executive officer of Janus Henderson, says the firm is excited to form the strategic partnership with Guardian Life, as it will further expand its insurance presence and institutional reach.

“The foundation of our partnership is built on our shared exceptional client focus, and we are pleased to bring to bear our strengths in fixed income, multi-asset solutions, and model portfolios to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes for clients and policyholders alike,” he says.
