Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund Danantara is interested in investing in three nickel processing facility projects, according to local newspaper Tempo, citing a senior official of nickel mining company Vale Indonesia.
Muhammad Asril, chief project officer of Vale Indonesia, says the first project, located in Pomalaa at Southeast Sulawesi, involves collaboration with US car producer, Ford Motor Company, and Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt, a Chinese producer of cobalt, nickel and lithium.
The second project, located in Morowali, Central Sulawesi, is currently being built with Chinese battery materials firm GEM Co. Ltd. The third project, located in South Solawesi, is also a partnership with Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt, Muhammad says in the report published on September 12.
“I can confirm that the opportunity for investment is open and there are currently initial discussions regarding Danantara’s involvement in the development of these three projects,” he says.
Spokespersons of Danantara did not immediately respond to questions from Asia Asset Management.
