Malaysia’s Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (KWAP) has tapped banker Jay Khairil Jeremy Abdullah as the new chief executive officer of the 185 billion ringgit (US$47.01 billion) civil service pension fund.
He succeedsNik Amlizan Mohamed, who left the pension fund, Malaysia’s second largest, after her contract ended on March 30.
The fund announced his appointment in a statement on May 11.
According to KWAP, he will lead its strategic direction, operations and institutional priorities and advance its mandate as the public sector fund “through disciplined investment, sound governance and long-term institutional stewardship”.
The term of his contract was not disclosed.
Jay Khairil joins KWAP from local lender Bank Simpanan Nasional, where he was the chief executive.
He has also held senior roles at several other lenders, including CIMB Group, and at Bank Negara Malaysia, the central bank.
