The Institutional Investors Council Malaysia will be opening its membership to non-institutional investors following its successful transition into a company limited by guarantee under the name IICM Bhd (IICM).
This transformation will allow IICM to expand its membership to a wider base, and to better represent the capital market industry in the evolving economic landscape.
The IICM currently has 31 members, including government-linked investment companies including the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (KWAP) and Permodalan Nasional (PNB), and asset managers including Kenanga Investors, AmInvest, BNP Paribas Asset Management Malaysia and Nomura Asset Management Malaysia.
Public listed companies, professional bodies and research entities will soon be allowed to join the IICM as associate members.
Meanwhile, the IICM has also launched a proxy voting platform, designed to empower its members with a simple, transparent and cost-effective tool to exercise their proxy voting right.
The platform also allows its members to enhance investors’ influence, as well as to enforce the principles of accountability and transparency across the capital market.
