US reinsurer Pacific Life Re names Southeast Asia head
Pacific Life Re has appointed Spenser Chen as head of Southeast Asia protection, taking over from Wallace Ong who moves into a newly-created role as head of business proposition and enablement for Asia protection.
Chen will be responsible for leading cross-functional teams to strengthen the company’s presence in the region by deepening client partnerships and delivering market-specific solutions, the US reinsurer says in a statement on August 12.
Ong, who has managed the Southeast Asia and China teams for the past 18 months, will focus on “accelerating market readiness across Asia” in his new role.
Chen has over 15 years of experience in consulting, insurance and reinsurance markets in Southeast Asia, Japan and the UK. He joined Pacific Life Re in January this year while Ong has been with the company for more than 11 years, according to their LinkedIn profiles.
Manulife Investment Management hires head of Asia equities
Canadian asset manager Manulife Investment Management has hired June Chua as head of Asian equities.
She will oversee investment process execution across Asia, with specific oversight in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam, the company says in a statement on August 8. Based in Hong Kong, she also serves as head of Asian equity research.
She reports to Charlie Dutton, head of emerging market equities.
Chua has more than 25 years of investment experience in Asia, excluding Japan and Asia frontier equities. She has worked at Swiss bank Lombard Odier and Harvest Global Investments, a unit of China’s Harvest Fund Management.
According to her Linkedin profile, she joined Manulife two weeks ago after taking a year-long career break.
Singapore’s Granite Asia names three managing partners
Singapore-based venture capital firm Granite Asia has appointed Ming Eng as managing partner for private credit, and Haojun Li and Joshua Wu as managing partners for equity.
All three were promoted from partners in their respective areas. The firm announced their new roles in a statement on August 8.
Granite Asia was spun off last year from US company GGV Capital to focus on Asian investments.
According to Li and Wu’s Linkedin profiles, they were partners in GGV.
Li focuses on investments in consumer technology and artificial intelligence applications, and Wu focuses on investments in enterprise services, AI applications and digital health.
Eng will officially begin her new role in September. According to her Linkedin profile, she joined Granite Asia in January this year from Orion Capital Asia.
