Thailand’s Government Pension Fund (GPF) chief Songpol Chevapanyaroj has resigned to become director/president of the Government Savings Bank (GSB), and his successor is likely to be named by the middle of the year.
“It is expected that the selection and appointment process for the new secretary-general will be completed within the second quarter of this year,” Lavaron Saengsanit, chairman of the GPF board, says in a statement recently.
The board has set up a subcommittee to handle the recruitment. The panel is headed by Piyawat Siwarak, secretary-general of the Civil Service Commission, which oversees the GPF.
Songpol is following in the footsteps of Vitai Ratanakorn, who resigned as GPF chief in 2021 to become chief executive officer/ president of GSB. He left the lender last July and was appointed governor of the central bank three months later.
Songpol will officially start his new role on March 2.
