Vietnamese asset manager VinaCapital Group has led a US$1.5 million funding round in local startup Quickom, which specialises in video conferencing communication technology.
The startup was founded in 2021 by William Nguyen, a tech entrepreneur who holds three US patents in communication technology.
VinaCapital led the fundraising through its venture capital technology investment vehicle, VinaCapital Ventures.
Vietnam is “quickly closing the gap in terms of technical advancement and the digital transformation of the economy is well underway”, according to Hoang Duc Trung, a partner at VinaCapital Ventures.
“Quickom is a perfect example of one of the startups leading the way. Its solutions are innovative and advanced, addressing important current issues such as cyber security and data privacy as well as future cyberspace threats,” he says in a statement on March 7 announcing the fundraising.
The identities of other investors in the funding round were not disclosed.
Quickom is “delighted to welcome VinaCapital Ventures as one of our institutional investors”, founder Nguyen says in a posting on his LinkedIn account.
“Their investment will play a pivotal role in driving Quickom’s global expansion in the conference business, while simultaneously enabling our decentralised technology to empower billions of underserved individuals worldwide,” he writes.
Established in 2003, VinaCapital had $4 billion of assets under management as of end-2023.
