Thailand’s securities regulator has raised the security-based crowdfunding limit for retail investors to 50 million baht (US$1.46 million) from 40 million baht, with no ceiling for institutional and high-net-worth investors.
According to the Securities and Exchange Commission, Thailand (SEC), the move will promote funding of startups and small and medium-sized firms “in a consistent manner”.
“The new rules will also improve the supervision of securities offerings through the crowdfunding system and funding portal to be clearer, more appropriate and efficient,” the SEC says in a statement on July 18.
The statement did not specify the previous limit for institutional and high-net-worth investors. SEC spokespersons did not immediately respond to questions from Asia Asset Management.
