Indonesian sovereign wealth fund Danantara is teaming up with local asset manager Mandiri Investment Management and Irish aircraft leasing firm SMBC Aviation Capital to establish Indonesia’s first aviation leasing fund, at an initial size of US$800 million.
Danantara announced the move in a statement on April 1, saying that it will be the lead strategic investor in the Mandiri Aviation Leasing Fund, which will be jointly managed by its two partners.
Pandu Sjahrir, chief investment officer of Danantara, describes the collaboration as “an important step for Indonesia to be involved in the global aviation financing ecosystem”.
“Danantara is investing in a world-class platform that delivers optimal returns while building strategic capabilities for Indonesia,” he says.
