HSBC Asset Management has hired Charles Li from rival UBS Asset Management as head of wholesale business for Asia, a newly-created role in which he will be responsible for wholesale clients in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, Japan and Southeast Asia.
“Li will be also responsible for setting and delivering the firm’s wholesale strategy,” the UK asset manager says in a statement on July 19.
The appointment is effective September 1.
Based in Hong Kong, Li will report to Thorsten Michalik, global head of wholesale and Daisy Ho, chief executive officer for Asia Pacific and Hong Kong.
Li was head of global wealth management client coverage for Asia Pacific and deputy head asset management for Hong Kong at Switzerland’s UBS Asset Management.
He has also held senior roles at US asset manager Fortis Investment Management and Germany’s Allianz Global Investors.
London-headquartered HSBC Asset Management had US$618 billion of assets under management as of March 2022.
