Japan’s Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Asset Management (SuMi Trust) has promoted Takahiro Kobayashi to president and chief executive officer.
He succeeds Yoshio Hishida, who will transition to a non-executive director role and serve as global asset management officer of parent company Sumitomo Mitsui Group.
Kobayashi will focus on accelerating SuMi Trust’s global expansion, targeting increased engagement with investors across the US, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, the firm says in a statement on October 6.
Kobayashi, who joined SuMi Trust from Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank in 2023, was an executive officer before the promotion.
Tokyo-based SuMi Trust is one of the largest asset managers in Japan, managing US$748 billion of assets as of August 2025.
