Singapore-based Eastspring Investments has announced a trio of new hires to its Asian fixed income team.
Clement Chong has been appointed as credit manager, Benedict Phua as director of fixed income, and Jamie Tay as director and client portfolio manager, the company says in a statement on February 1.
Chong, who was previously head of research at NN Investment Partners, will oversee the credit research team and co-manage the Eastspring Asia Sustainable Bond Fund alongside portfolio manager Rong Ren Goh. He reports to Danny Tan, the head of fixed income.
Phua will be responsible for Eastspring’s Asian US dollar credit solutions-based strategies, reporting to lead portfolio manager Wai Mei Leong. He joins the firm from Standard Chartered, where he was an executive director.
Tay, who was previously director of Asia fixed income strategy at UBS Asset Management, reports to Adam Matthews, head of client portfolio managers.
“We continue to strengthen our fixed income coverage and broaden our capabilities to capture attractive investment opportunities for our clients. The addition of highly talented individuals such as Clement, Benedict and Jamie greatly enhance our FI platform, and represent a strong addition to our FI team,” Tan says in the statement.
Eastspring, the Asian investment arm of UK insurer Prudential plc, had US$222 billion of assets under management as of end-2022.
