Australia’s Hostplus Super plans to add cryptocurrency as an investment option for members, according to Bloomberg, citing Sam Sicilia, chief investment officer of the superannuation fund.
The option may be available to members as early as during Hostplus’s next financial year, Sicilia is quoted as saying in the news report published on May 28. The fund’s new financial year starts on July 1.
Sicilia says the plan is still at the design phase and will require regulatory approval.
Spokespersons for the super fund did not immediately respond to questions from Asia Asset Management.
Hostplus has US$96 billion of assets under management and about 2.2 million members. It’s Australia’s fifth largest super fund by assets and third largest by members, according to Bloomberg.
